Cindy and Sam Farnet recently celebrated 30 years of business at the bustling corner of Magazine and Seventh streets.
Known for schooners of local beer and deftly-prepared versions of traditional New Orleans classics — think daily plate lunch specials, Red Beans and Rice, overstuffed Poor Boys, crisp cooked-to-order Fried Chicken, and Trout Topped with Shrimp & Crabmeat — Joey K's recently added Sunday Brunch to the offerings.
A welcoming "Come as You Are" attitude and walls covered in colorful works by neighborhood artist Simon Hardeveld set the backdrop for a leisurely, reasonably priced brunch before a day of shopping or strolling.
Starters include Fried Green Tomatoes served with Grilled Shrimp and Remoulade; Crabmeat au Gratin; Oversized Onion Rings; and sweet tooth satisfying Beignet Bites topped with powdered sugar and a side of Nutella for dipping. Entrees include the Basic Breakfast Plate (two eggs your way, cheese grits, bacon, hash browns and biscuit or toast), Build-You-Own Omelets, waffles, pancakes, and a knockout version of Shrimp and Cheese Grits made with a creamy macque choux sauce with andouille.
Open for brunch Sundays 11-3
Takeout, delivery and dine-in are available, and there is seating on the sidewalk affording an in-the-moment experience within the lively neighborhood.
