Mystic Blue Signs opened on Magazine Street in 1997, but they have been specializing in hand lettering and illustration since 1973. New Orleans' inspiring architecture and history make it a natural location for this hand-painted sign shop.
They use traditional methods and materials and draw everything by hand, designing logos to lettering to illustration. They hand-cut, hand-carve, and hand-paint, using wood, metal, special sign paint and sign painters' quills, flats and fitches. They paint murals and signs on buildings, and use real 23 karat gold leaf sheets on signs and glass transom numbers. They do original calligraphy for special events, and hand engraving, menus and chalkboards. Their lettering classes are the most comprehensive in the city. And they ship signs all over the world.
Since 2003, Mystic Blue has hosted regular art shows in their gallery, featuring local artists. They sell prints, paintings, posters, signs, stained-glass, jewelry and objets d'art made by their artists.
